the colbys episode 3 - "Moment of truth"

It's Thanksgiving, and Jason starts the day with great news - he got that second opinion and the doctor found that Jason only has six months to live instead of a year.  Jason better hurry up and get everything settled before he passes.  He puts step one in to motion as Sable announces at the family Thanksgiving dinner that Miles is to receive 10% of Jason's stock and will become Jason's executive assistant.  Miles is ecstatic and is prepared to make his father proud.  Monica and Bliss will also get 10% once they marry.

Step two is going to be a little more complicated since it involves Frankie.  Jason clearly harbors some feelings for Frankie.  Why is beyond me?  It's not like she is all that exciting.  Besides, she is twice widowed - probably bored her husband's to death (no wonder Philip went off to fight in Vietnam).  Regardless, Jason loves having Frankie at the house and even enjoys a 3am champagne toast with her which is so abruptly interrupted by Sable.

Frankie, on the other hand, really wants to reconcile with Jeff but Jeff wants nothing to do with Frankie.  All he manages to do is it to insult her (well deserved) with a low blow being that he used to tell his friends that she was dead.  Ahhh, that is why we all thought that his parents were dead back on Dynasty.

Jason is not the only one settling matters.  Sable is ready to get her house back in order.  The first thing is to ensure that Randall stays married to Miles even after she learns that she is Fallon.  What better way for the two to stay married than to have a child, and that is what Sable suggests to Randall.  Randall is not ready to have a baby just yet, definitely not until she knows who she is.  Of course, why would having a child require Fallon to remain with Miles.  I mean she already has a child with Jeff.  Poor LB, does he even know his mother is alive.  Hurry up and bring him to California - life with Rita (Krystle double) totally sucks.

I wouldn't mind rubbing Miles down.

Sable then decides maybe it is time for Jeff to leave the house - just to keep peace and harmony.  Jeff has no issue with leaving but assures Sable that it will not stop him from getting Fallon.  The point becomes moot when Connie interrupts and tells Jeff that he is to stay in the Colby House.  Connie then chastises Sable for asking Jeff to leave.  This is the Colby House, not Sable's place, and any Colby is welcome to stay.  Sable assures Connie that she will not get her way this time.

Stuck with Jeff and no prospect for a grandchild, Sable finally has it out with Frankie - and over a piece of art of all things.  Sable tells Frankie that all she wants is peace in her family and sees her and Jeff's presence as usurping the harmony.  Sable pretty much has a point here.  Things were going great until Jeff came along (thanks to Connie).  This is where one becomes sympathetic to Sable's meddling.  On Dynasty, the lines were clearly drawn - Krystle was good and Alexis was evil.  You really can't say the same thing with Sable and Connie (just yet) or Frankie (never).

Frankie does not want to interfere anymore.  Besides, Jeff clearly wants nothing to do with her.  Frankie decides to leave, but calls Jason first to tell him of her decision.  Of course, Jason does not want her to leave, not yet, and tells her that over lunch.  Jason also suggests to Frankie that he does not have much time left.  Frankie pretty much gets what Jason is getting at, and that Jason still has feelings for her.

Moving on, Bliss leaves Thanksgiving dinner early to be with her new beau, Sean McAllister.  Jason wants to meet this Sean McAllister, and pays him a friendly visit at the sea park where he works.  Jason believes that Sean is using Bliss just to get to him because he is opposed to the pipeline.  Sean is offended by Jason's suggestion and takes it out on Bliss.  Bliss defends her father and the fight between the two ends with a kiss.  Totally cliche here.

Zach Powers takes advantage of Miles's promotion to get his business proposal to Jason.  Miles takes Zach's proposal and promises to pass it on to Jason if he believes it is of merit.  Miles does but Jason discards the proposal and gives Miles some business advice about considering carefully the people he is willing to do business with.  That is some good advice because we get hints of Zach's animosity towards Jason.  Zach makes sure to tell Jason about his father, Salvador Zacharius, who was a fisherman.  Of course, the name does not ring a bell for Jason.  Then, we get a flashback scene of a young Zach finding his father dead on the beach.  Gee, this kind of reminds me of something that happened on Dynasty.  Season 2 if I recall with a Dr. Nick Toscani trying to get revenge on Blake for his brother's death, which he blamed Blake for.  Nothing wrong with recycling, it is good for the environment.

Back to Jason.  Sable finally learns about Jason's condition when she reads the lab report that Jason left in his pocket.  But, while Sable is reading the report, Jason actually gets some great news.  There was a computer error and Jason isn't dying.  Jason is so happy with the news that he offers those who told him differently a drink, after threatening them with a gun (of course).  Sable is ecstatic when she learns that Jason is not dying but is upset that Jason had no shared things sooner.  After reading the letter that Jason was going to give to Sable, Sable embraces the man she loves and tells him that there are to be no more secrets between them.  Well, I guess that will settle matters between the two - no more secrets.  Oh, and as she says it, Sable is embracing the Rose that Frankie had put in Jason's lapel.  Gee, no more secrets.

Memorable Dialogue

Bliss (to Sable):  You know I never have dessert.  Rich is thin, your motto, or is it rich is beautiful.  I can't remember.

Jason:  You want me to leave.
Sable:  I am appealing to your sense of decency to do the right thing.

Sable:  I thought you were above eavesdropping, Constance.

Jason (to Sean):  You don't know anything about me, son, just what the media feeds you.  That isn't me, that's a cartoon, dollar signs drawn on the vest.  Do you really buy all those knee jerk liberal cliches.

Miles (to Jeff):  This is between me and my father.  So just butt out, buster.

Sable:  If you don't mind, Frankie, I know what I am doing and this is one place where I won't be dictated to.
