the colbys episode 35 - “sanctuary”

As I suspected, the drop is not that far for Kolya who manages to suffer only a minor rib injury. Sasha tries to get Kolya to go back to the Soviet Union. He already has Anna in the car. In the presence of U.S. Immigration Officials, Kolya states that he wishes to seek asylum in the United States. Good enough. At least they still have Anna. Kolya swears that Anna wants to defect too but the immigration official needs to hear that. The Soviets whisk Anna off to the airport.

Good luck Kolya

Jason is able to pull some strings to keep the plane grounded. Jason, Sable, Kolya and Bliss rush to airport as Anna is being taken on board. Kolya wants to talk to her but Sasha says there is no need. After they board the plane, a series of cop cars arrive to prevent the plane from leaving. A standoff ensues. All Kolya wants to do is to speak with Anna. Jason returns to his office - for some reason - just to have a Reaganesque moment with Cash regarding the Soviets, I.M.O.S., and how individual freedom is more important than the I.M.O.S. Project that will somehow lead to peace.

Bye Bye Anna

Jason goes back to the airport (did he really ever leave) and is able to negotiate a meeting between Kolya and Anna on the tarmac. Kolya must accept whatever decision Anna makes. Anna decides she wants to return to Russia. Yes, she was pressured to do so, but at the same time do we really want to keep her around. She and the audience is better off with Anna in the Soviet Union. Bye, Anna. Look on the bright side Anna, the Soviet system will collapse in a few years and you will get more freedom.

Kolya finally has his freedom, but freedom in the United States requires a 24 hour armed guard presence for Kolya’s safety. Kolya also does not want to be looking over his shoulder all the time wondering if the KGB will kidnap him and send him back to the Soviet Union. Let’s face it, the Soviet Union would not do something like that. Yes, they would pressure Kolya to return by screwing with his family back in Russia, but kidnap a person in the United States - that is way too risky. But, it does provide the opportunity for Bliss to get her lover moved into the Colby Mansion as some sort of sanctuary for Kolya. I would much rather have sanctuary in the Colby Mansion than some church.

Bliss will be able to keep her toy

Thanks to Jason’s Reagan-moment, the Soviets cancel the secret meeting in Brussels. Geez, I wonder if Sable will still want to go. Of course not. Zach knows why Sable has changed her mind with respect to Brussels, which she notes is rather dull (as my European friends have told me). Zach still wants to force Sable to go to Brussels but she lets him know that he can watch the sprouts grow on his own. The two passionately kiss (as is only done in soap operas) but Zach will no longer play second to Jason in Sable’s life. Shocker - yes he will.

So I guess we have no scenes from Brussels

Things remain tension in the Colby Lodge. Channing is rightfully pissed and really knows how to set Miles off by telling him that she hates the baby and wishes the baby never existed. Miles is ready to strike Channing, but the two make love instead. Again, that only happen on soap operas.

Fallon, meanwhile, is starting to feel some pain. Can’t people just have a normal pregnancy? Jeff recruits Frankie to bring the helicopter out so they can get Fallon to a doctor. Wait a minute, was brining out the helicopter always an option? Why spend the night there then? Miles wants to join Jeff in meeting the helicopter and leaves Channing in charge of Fallon. Is that the smartest idea? Channing just told you she hated the baby, and now you are going to put her in charge of its care. We all know that Channing is going to do something. Fallon claims the pain is getting worse and needs a doctor now. Channing looks up a doctor in the phone book (wait, they didn’t think of this before). However, when Channing calls the doctor, she claims that the line is dead when it clearly is not. Oh Channing.

Maybe Channing wishes she could put the baby in the fire

Jeff and Frankie return to get Fallon. Channing tells them that she tried to call a doctor but the line was dead. Wouldn’t you know it, the phone rings and it is the doctor seeing if everything okay. Frankie becomes immediately suspicious of Channing. Frankie really should just let this go. Fallon is okay and needs to be free from stress. Good luck keeping Fallon stress free.

Keep out of it, Frankie

Monica is a very smart woman so she is soon going to figure out that Scott is her child. It doesn’t hurt that everyone keeps dropping clues about it. Zach learns the truth and uses it to try to blackmail Cash to being his spy on the I.M.O.S. project. Further, Zach has a cryptic conversation with Monica where he claims that Cash looks just like a Colby and has Monica’s eyes.

I thought it was a marriage in name only

When Cash tells Adrienne that he is going to tell Monica the truth, Adrienne get drunk which was probably not the first time since she sent Scott to get her aspirin. Believing that Cash told Monica the truth, Adrienne goes to Monica’s office to tell her that Monica will never take him from her. Monica assures Adrienne that she does not want Cash. But, Adrienne is not talking about Cash. Monica does not know to whom Adrienne is referring and Adrienne refuses to tell her - she will have to ask her lover.

We have all been there Adrienne

Adrienne does not need to say anything. Monica has pretty much figured it out. Arthur cannot tell Monica what he knows because of attorney-client privilege. He tells Monica to ask Connie. Monica is finally able to get hold of Connie (who is still in India) and Connie finally tells Monica the truth. About time! Now that Monica knows, Cash decides to tell Monica the truth. Too late - he should have told her eight years ago. Monica is pissed and never wants to speak Cash again.

The truth is finally out

Memorable Dialogue

Channing: No, you have got it wrong. You planned this whole trip just to be near her. You want to be in that marriage, in that bed. Not this one.
Miles: What about you? What about that cozy little chat last night with Jeff.
Channing: Well at least he can tell me from Fallon.

Channing: Damn that baby
Miles: What did you say?
Channing: I hate that baby. I wish to God that baby didn’t exist.

Jason: If I.M.O.S, stands for anything, it is for peace. You can’t have peace without freedom, individual freedom.
Cash: Save it for your next fundraiser.

Zach: Jeff’s son?
Monica: He’s Senator Cassidy’s son.
Zach: Really? Well I would have sworn he’s was a Colby.
Monica: Why do you say that?
Zach: The resemblance is so strong. Haven’t you noticed? He even has your eyes.

Kolya: You’ll never know how much this means to me.
Sable: Oh believe me, I do. I know how painful it must be to lose your home and how frightened you must feel with no one to turn to. Believe me, I know.
