the colbys episode 41 - “All Fall Down”

Cash is rushed to the hospital. The bullet lodged close to Cash’s spine and it is too risky too operate until his condition stabilizes. There is the possibility that he could be paralyzed. At least with Cash in the hospital, Adrienne can try to keep Cash away from Monica. Cash eventually comes to with Adrienne and Scott by his side, and guess who he asks for? Monica - of course. I am sure Adrienne would like a drink right about now. Just as Cash is being wheeled into surgery, Adrienne and Scott run into Monica and Adrienne tells Monica that Cash does not want to see her, and that order came directly from Cash. Scott knows his mother is lying and sees Monica in the hospital chapel. The two express how scared they are and Scott says he did not mean it when he told Monica that he hated her and never wanted to see her again. Things are looking up for Monica as she and Cash express their love for one another when Cash comes out of surgery.

Adrienne just let’s Scott roam around the hospital

Now that Cash has taken a bullet for Jason, Jason can finally admit that he was wrong about Cash and was wrong to try to force him off IMOS. They have something in common - Scott. It is great to know what it takes to actually get an apology from Jason.

Finally an admission of being stubborn

Speaking of Jason, the family is concerned about his safety after the assassination attempt. Well, not Bliss because no one decided to contact her to tell her what had happened. In fact, Bliss does not even appear in the episode. The police tell Jason that the person who shot him, identified as Henry Logan, had a bus ticket from Los Angeles to Eureka in his pocket for the day that Jason and Frankie was shot - the piece of paper put into his coat when he was shot by private security.

The ticket is clearly to Los Angeles

That is interesting, how was Lucas/Sam able to purchase such a ticket and backdate it. Even more interesting, the ticket itself clearly shows it was for a trip from Eureka to Los Angeles. Why not just say that Henry purchased a ticket from Eureka to Los Angeles - it would make just as much sense? Oh well. Regardless, the police and Jason suspect that this Henry person also tried to shoot Jason in Eureka. This seems to take some pressure off Lucas/Sam and Hoyt. We still do not know why these people want Jason dead.

I feel the same way Scott

Hoyt, meanwhile, makes another move. He visits a stock broker and asks that he purchase $2 million worth of Colby Enterprises’ common stock (60,000 shares). Further, the stock broker must ensure that Hoyt’s name is never linked to the transaction. The purchaser is to be Saturn Financial. Jeff is tipped off about the purchase and fears that there may be an attempt by someone to muscle his way into Colby Enterprises. Jeff instantly believes that it is Zach and visits Zach at his office. Zach assures Jeff that he is not the one purchasing stock in Colby Enterprises and that Jason has many enemies. Great job Jeff in tipping off Zach about the purchase because Zach will not look into it at all.

I also feel the same way Zach

Jeff traces the stock purchase to the broker and tries to learn the identity of the purchaser from him. The broker keeps quiet but he probably does not need to say anything as Jeff notices a box of cigarettes from Singapore on the broker’s desk. Hoyt must have left them there and the broker must not have noticed the box sitting there for a couple of days. Jeff connects the dots. The purchase was for the same amount that Connie had taken out just before she went to see Hoyt. Hoyt must have used Connie’s money to muscle his way into Colby Enterprises. It is so easy and much quicker than waiting for the SEC filing.

They need more scenes together

Even though Sable suggested to Jason that she was engaged to Zach, she had not said yes yet and Zach keeps pressing her. The morning following the shooting, Zach asks Sable again and Sable says she will see what her horoscope says first before deciding. Sable opens the paper to see that Jason had been shot. She must go to him, even if he does have Frankie. Sable finds Jason in the mansion, tells him that she loves him and asks Jason if he still loves her. Jason is about to respond when Frankie enters. Sable notices the engagement ring that Jason had just given Frankie. (It always seems that a brush with death pushes Jason to take the next step with Frankie.) Sable puts up a brave front and tells Frankie how lovely the ring is.

You can’t hold Zach off forever

That should clear the way for Sable to accept Zach’s proposal. Sable still is not ready to say yes. Zach gives her 24 hours - either she accept his proposal or he will withdraw it. Jason is livid with the idea that Sable may marry Zach, which is strange because a few episodes ago, Jason was resigned to accepting it. Of course Jason is being a hypocrite here. Besides, even if Sable does not love Zach, she can still marry him. As the song goes, if you can’t be with the one you love, then love the one you are with.

Stop torturing yourself, Sable

Jason’s changed reaction to Sable’s possible engagement is not the only head turner in this episode. The whole Miles/Channing/Fallon/Jeff dynamic makes a dramatic shift. Channing finds L.B.’s marbles on the stairs and confronts Fallon about it. Okay, why is L.B. playing with marbles on the carpeted stairs? Also the combination of marbles, stairs and a pregnant woman is not a good one (we will get to that.) Channing tells Fallon that L.B. needs a good spanking (Rita understands that feeling) but Fallon tells Channing that she will discipline and raise her child as she sees fit.

Don’t worry Jeff, none of us can figure Channing out

Jeff kind of understands Channing’s point which of course annoys Fallon. Meanwhile, Miles is annoyed with Channing for her confrontation with Fallon. Even if your spouse is wrong, you need to take your spouse’s side - especially against a potential rival. Miles really is not a changed man and everyone knows he still loves Fallon even if they are afraid to say it.

Just like old times

Not to be outdone by Miles and Channing’s blow up, Jeff and Fallon fight over the same stuff they have fought for since Dynasty began. Fallon feels trapped/suffocating and Jeff feels that Fallon needs to grow up. It has been a while since we have seen Jeff and Fallon have a fight like this. Jeff storms off and Fallon chases after him. With impeccable timing, Channing feels it is the right moment to apologize to Fallon and to try to make amends. Fallon and Channing see Jeff leave and Fallon continues down the stairs to go after Jeff. Guess what? L.B. did not listen to his mother and has again left marbles on the stairs. Fallon steps on the marbles and goes tumbling down. Pregnant women need to avoid stairs at all costs. Just as Fallon is lying on the ground, Miles enters and pretty much blames Channing for all of this. Miles one day you will actually take your wife’s side.

Pregnant Woman + Stairs = All Fall Down

Memorable Dialogue

Zach: You think by running to him, putting your arms around him, you’ll win him back.
Sable: He needs me.
Zach: He’s got Francesca.
Sable: I don’t care. I have to go to him

Sable: I love you. Do you still love me?
Jason: Don’t say that to me please. You’ll hate me for hearing it.
Sable: I can see it in your eyes.

Sable: Do you really care?
Jason: Of course I care. I don’t want to see him hurt you.
Sable: Why? So you can keep the monopoly on that?
Jason: Damn it. You don’t love him. You can’t.
Sable: I can and I do and nothing you say will stop me from marrying him.

Channing: I am your wife. You should be saying this to her, not to me.
Miles: I know damn well who my wife is.
Channing: Who? Or what, darling? You don’t want a wife, you want a bed partner - a body to keep you warm until Fallon is free again.
Miles: So then we both got what we want. You got the Colby name and I got the warm body next to me. The rest of this marriage is a wash out.

Fallon: I can’t stay locked up in this castle forever.
Jeff; Nobody is locking you up anywhere. Damn it, Fallon. It’s time to grow up. Geez, I love you and I’ve always loved you but ever since I married you, you’ve had everything your way. You married me, you divorced me and you ran out. Everything your way. Well, I know you Fallon and I can hear it starting all over again - I’m trapped, I’m suffocating, I got to get out of here. Well, if you want to run - go ahead and run. But this time, I’m not running after you.
