the colbys episode 44 - “Answered prayers”

Miles is devastated by the paternity results. Naturally, he lashes out at Jeff and storms off. Channing tries to find Miles and speaks to Fallon (good to see that the two made up) to see if she knows where Miles may have gone. Fallon has no clue but mentions how she and Miles first met at the Polo Club. And that is where Channing finds Miles. Miles, however, lashes out at Channing.

Good, the feud is over

The following morning, Miles apologizes and the two talk. Channing appreciates how open with his feelings Miles is and that she could learn from it. Channing is so cautious and always afraid. Channing even promises that maybe a miracle will happen for them. Miles is skeptical but Channing may just provide Miles that miracle. Channing will no longer fear child birth and she throws out her birth control pills. Yes, Channing wraps them in an envelop before discarding them in her bedroom, but she could have trashed them somewhere else.

Miles will eventually come around

Now that the paternity issue is settled, we can go full steam ahead with the wedding of Frankie and Jason. There is one little snag, Sable has yet to sign the divorce papers. Jason believes this is another one of Sable’s games, but Sable is willing to sign the papers and does so in Jason’s office. Sable also tells Jason that she will always love him and that they will always be friends. And, as Jason’s friend, she advises him not to marry Frankie. Frankie will never make him happy.

Friends!

Frankie, meanwhile, tries to make amends with Sable. Why? Did Frankie really think that Sable would be receptive? How is a person to act when their sister steals their husband? It’s crazy. Further, it is crazy because it is Sable. Frankie always has the look of terror every time she speaks with her sister. Maybe Frankie wants to ease her conscious, but Sable will not apologize. She does warn Frankie that she will never be able to fill her shoes.

Never in a million years will they be friends

Frankie finally gets around to burning her love letters from Philip. Wait, she has kept them for almost 30 years. Why burn them now? Jason and Frankie both recognize that they will always have memories of and feelings for their past spouses. Everyone has a past. Neither realizes how messed up their relationship really is. Frankie was married to Jason’s brother and Jason to Frankie’s sister. Yes, I cannot get over this.

Should have burned them sooner

For some reason, Bliss tells her father that she cannot attend the wedding, she feels it would be a betrayal of her mother. Bliss, of course, does attend the wedding. I guess we had to give Bliss a few lines in this episode.

Bliss, you know you’re going to the wedding

Hoyt feels it is time now to shave his stupid mustache. Meanwhile, Jason and Monica discuss Hoyt’s connection with Connie. Monica re-reads the last letter she received from Connie and Connie speaking of karma and surprises and all. Connie was not the type to be into mysticism (except for when playing the horses) so what was she talking about? And, does it have something to do with Hoyt? There is a deeper connection between Connie and Hoyt than Connie being conned or blackmailed by Hoyt.

Now we can learn Hoyt’s true identity

The prospect of the wedding has put Sable in a mood, naturally, and a mood that Zach needs to deal with. Zach is showing patience, probably because he knows that once Frankie and Jason are married, Sable will finally move on. There will be no more hope for Sable of getting back with Jason. Just so Sable does not have to torment herself during the wedding, Zach takes her to Morocco. While in Morocco, Sable keeps asking Zach the time as she tries to determine when exactly the two will be married, when it is finally over. A minute before the wedding, Zach shows Sable a shooting star and tells her to make a wish. We can all guess what Sable wished - and it was not happiness with Zach.

Make a wish

The wedding is a pretty subdued affair and Frankie’s dress is boring. At least she didn’t try to wear white. Also, Frankie doesn’t even have a maid of honor (does no one really like her). As the two share their vows, Frankie turns and notices one of the guests - Hoyt Parker. She cannot believe it. Jason turns also and he is in disbelief too. Hoyt Parker is Phillip Colby. Naturally, Frankie collapses into Jason’s arms. Sable’s wish did come true.

Sable gets her wish

Memorable Dialogue

Miles: First you take my wife, then my dad. Now you want my little girl. My only child.
Jeff: No one takes anything from you. You chase people out of your life. My God, you raped Fallon and you’re still blaming me. When is it ever you?

Miles: The baby’s not mine.
Channing: Miles, please.
Miles: But you’re going to wish it was though because now it is just you and me. Only you and me, how’s that for a feeling.

Sable: Don’t marry her, Jason. Please don’t marry her.
Jason: Sable
Sable: Not for my sake, but for yours. I know you. I know her. She’s never been good for any man who’s been in love with her.
Jason: She’s good for me. I need her in my life. To be happy. To be free.
Sable: You are free. You are free like a tree that’s cut itself down and then rejoices because its roots aren’t in the earth. You need me. You’ve always needed me. You can’t live life without me.
Jason: Can’t we end this with some dignity.
Sable: I do know how ridiculous I made myself for you.

End of an era

Sable: Don’t be my husband. I’ll learn to accept that but please I beg you don’t he hers. Take some time, a year to think. I’ll stay away. I’ll promise. But she won’t make you happy. She can’t.
Jason: I will marry her. I will be happy.
Sable: You asked me to be your friend, that’s why I told you.

Jason: She won’t be hurt, Frankie will.
Bliss: Then she’ll have to be hurt. I’d feel like I am betraying my mother.
Jason: Is that the way you feel about me - am I betraying her?
Bliss: Yes. I’m sorry.

Frankie: I don’t want us to part enemies.
Sable: Well then you’re expecting too much - my husband and my friendship.

Sable: Well, you’re in for some rude surprises. He’s been with me for 28 years. I won’t fight you. I don’t need to. The memories will do that - happy ones and the sad ones. You’ll be fighting them for the rest of your life.
Frankie: We’ll make our own.
Sable: Maybe. But being his wife is more than arranging seating at dinner parties.

Don’t worry Sable, things will work out for you

Frankie: If you learned it, he’d still be yours.
Sable: He still is. Jason and I cold marry and re-marry until the cows come home. We’d still belong to each other. You’re stepping into my shoes, dahling, and when the honeymoon is over you better hope the fit’s perfect.
Frankie: I came here to make peace.
Sable: Well you’re not going to get away with a hug and a kiss. You stole my husband and I’ll never forgive you.

Zach: I wished for happiness. Did you?
Sable: If I tell you, it won’t come true.
