dynasty Episode 184 - The Fair

These are the episodes when doing a recap is so easy because a lot of it focuses around a lavish party.  Yes, there will be more pictures than normal and less to say even though a lot did occur in this episode.  For some reason, Blake and Krystle have not learned their lesson about agreeing to attend events thrown by Alexis.  Yes, they know something bad is going to happen to them (at the last one, Ben showed up) but they still make an appearance.  Besides, how can they say no after Alexis said a personal invite in the form of a jester.  It did not do much good because Krystle had already agreed and purchased their outfits.

Meanwhile, Sean knows exactly what he wants from Dana - the minutes from the Denver Carrington Board meetings as well as any information on Blake's divestiture of his holdings.  A typical husband, Adam does not see that something is bothering Dana even though it is obvious on her face.  Hell, just to up the ante, Sean wants the information brought to him at the Fair.  Dana almost does not attend but shows up last minute and without the information.  Sean almost tells Adam the truth of Dana's abortion but drops it last second and reminds Dana not to ignore his wishes.

Sammy Jo speaks with Josh who is about to leave Denver.  Sammy Jo convinces Josh to remain and Josh tells Steven he is ready to be quarterback and work extra hard to win for the team.  Working extra hard for Josh is to buy a ridiculous cowboy outfit and propose to Sammy Jo.  Whoa, buckaroo!  Such proposals only work for Jeff.  Sammy Jo still wants to keep her family in tact and turns down Josh.  Josh, for obvious reasons, does not take the rejection very well.  It really must suck losing out to a gay guy.

Fallon and Jeff both have different plans as to what they want to do with their relationship.  Fallon tells Blake that she no longer loves Jeff and Blake, forgetting the history between Fallon and Jeff, is surprised but does not Fallon to live a lie just to make him happy.  Meanwhile, Jeff tells Krystle that he still loves Fallon and he wants their relationship to work.  So, Fallon wants a divorce right away and Jeff wants it to work out.  Guess who wins in these battles - the person wanting the divorce, of course.  At least they can attend the Fair together as some sort of last hurrah.

Leslie has totally gone into mini-Alexis mode even imitating her in her own office.  Of course, Alexis catches this little act and tells Leslie that imitation is not flattery and that she needs to discover her own persona.  Alexis is actually mentoring Leslie - who would have thunk it.  The sisters are doing it for themselves.  To give Leslie the taste of her future, Alexis gives her this hideous bracelet that Leslie has been wearing a copy of.  Wow, that thing cost $24,000, and Leslie copied it.  Maybe style was pretty bad in the late 1980s.  Okay, enough of the bracelet.

Onto the Fair.  As with any event thrown by Alexis, it is done in grand fashion and very authentic.  Poor Dex gets stuck in the dunking tanks while Sammy Jo feels right at home in the kissing booth.  Sammy Jo even gets a great wad of cash from Steven for kissing him even though Sammy Jo has been dying to do that for free.  Sammy Jo's fun is ruined by a drunk Josh who shows up to maul Sammy Jo.  Steven is able to kick him out and once again turns down Sammy Jo.  Dejected and humiliated, Sammy Jo finds comfort with Jeff who has decided he will spend the evening at the bar mourning his second marriage to Fallon.  Meanwhile, Fallon has a great laugh with Dex after she is able to dunk him following a run-in in the bathroom with Leslie.

What would be a party without Krystle and Alexis fighting and this time it is a controlled battle.  The two are engaged in a tug of war.  C'mon, we know who is going to win this, the same person who has won every fight with Alexis.  Alexis enjoys herself a mud bath, but it does allow her to change out of her Queen Elizabeth outfit and into a stunning red dress.  The red dress is more appropriate attire for screwing Blake over.  The evening comes to its climax with Alexis showing Blake's campaign film at the drug rehabilitation center.  The film is then cut into Blake's visit to Cora's whore house (the footage is exactly the same as what happened in Season 6, at least that hooker rented the DVD) and suggests Blake likes the company of prostitutes.  Who doesn't? Blake gives his obligatory, "What the devil is going on here?" before he takes his page boy (I mean Krystle) and leaves.  Alexis is most pleased with how events turned out.

Memorable Dialogue

Sammy Jo:  I'm late Steven and it's my turn in the kissing booth.
Alexis:  How appropriate.

Alexis [to Krystle]:  Congratulations.  You won this round but the night is still young.

Fallon [to Leslie]:  Poor Leslie, you have no idea how obvious you are.  Look at yourself.  You may see Alexis but everyone else sees a pathetic imitation.  You have no identity Leslie.  You've tried to take one woman's style and another woman's husband and you failed at both.
