dynasty Episode 63 - The Hearing, Part 1

So Blake really is going to tear his family apart on his stupid crusade to take Danny from Steven.  From today's perspective, this whole case seems farcical, but it was an interesting legal issue at the time.  Regardless, since this is a soap opera, the case and hearing itself is farcical, but we will get to that later.  Let's cover other matters first.

Fallon is getting no where on finding out about the miracles of mercuric oxide.  Unfortunately, the foreman at the plant in Billings no longer works there so she cannot determine whether Adam was the attorney on the case.  Fallon is a little off on her investigative skills here.  All information on cases is public record, so all she would need to do is to contact the court in Billings, get the info on the case and find out who was the attorney of record.  But, that is too easy.  Besides, Jeff thinks that Adam would not go so far as to poison him.  Jeff, you must not know Adam that well.

Adam continues to be sympathetic, though.  He visits Blake at Denver Carrington to say goodbye.  Blake wishes he would stay since they are both pretty much isolated from the rest of the family.  Adam actually agrees.  Not only will Adam work at Denver Carrington but he moves into the mansion.  Isn't that great.  Now you have a pregnant Kirby living under the same roof as her rapist and her baby daddy.  Oh, this will get good.

Not a good day for Alexis

Not a good day for Alexis

Actually, we can say it already has been good.  Alexis goes to visit L.B. and who happens to be in the nursery with the child - Kirby.  This will not be awkward at all.  Kirby gets into it with Alexis and she ends up choking her.  Alexis should get used to that.  Blake and Jeannette stop this madness.  Privately, Blake tells Alexis that she is no longer welcome at the mansion to see L.B. and that she needs to make arrangements with Fallon.  And, since it is assault Alexis day, Blake manhandles her before she leaves.

I do not know why Blake thinks he is going to win this hearing.  Blake is unmarried, has recently been convicted of manslaughter (although he claims it was a long time ago) and has a history of raising homosexuals, namely his son.  Further, no one is testifying on Blake's behalf, not even Krystle.  Krystle is going to testify on behalf of Steven despite Andrew Laird's warning that he is going to vigorously cross examine her.

Oh my bad, Blake has the prissy social worker testifying for him.  After Steven catches her during a surprise visit, he leaves a bad impression with Mrs. Pomeroy, not that he would have any success with her because she believes that a child that is raised in a home with two homosexual will end up being gay.  And, as I have said before, the only individual in that courtroom with a history of having a child end up a gay is Blake.

And why again are we here?  Is Steven even gay this week?  We are supposed to believe that Steven is an unfit parent because he is gay, but he is banging Claudia and the two are rather affectionate to one another.   She even goes to court with him to wish him well and walk off towards an area which is not the exit.  So, what is Blake and Steven's crusade all about.  (Okay, I know I am jumping the gun here because I know how this turns out.)

At the hearing, Blake goes on some high moral ground about wanting what is best for the child, and the unnatural environment that Steven would provide is not the best for Danny.  On cross, Blake loses his temper as he always does and Andrew has to warn him about that as Andrew always does.

Of course, we all know Blake would not allow Andrew to cross examine Krystle.  I mean if he would not let Andrew cross Claudia at his trial for murder, why would he allow him to cross the woman that Blake loves and wants back.

Alexis does not think Chris Deegan was harsh enough with Blake so she will provoke him when she testifies.  Chris wants to focus on the fitness of Steven as a parent, but Alexis, correctly, wants to discuss Blake's fitness.  This sets off Blake who screams that Alexis made Steven a gay and that he had spent his life trying to correct that and make it a man.

The judge had enough of this nonsense and calls a recess for the day.  Blake tries to explain himself to Steven but Steven retorts that Blake hates him and always has.  Yeah Blake, this is what winning looks like.  Oh, but Blake may have a trick up his sleeve.  Sammy Jo, who feels Steven broke some bargain, is more than willing to come to Denver to testify at the hearing.  This should be good!

Memorable Dialogue

Andrew:  Steven's lawyer may be his gay lover, but Chris Deegan isn't stupid.

Steven:  Blake's going to learn a very painful lesson from this.  He can't go around shoving his prejudice down other people's throats.

Alexis:  What is this, Blake?  The sacred house of Lord Carrington of Denver.  Hear no evil, speak no evil.  How can you cast the first stone when everybody knows you are planning tomorrow to destroy your son.

Alexis:  Take your hands off me, Blake.  I won't be touched by trash and that's what you still are and always will be.

Mrs. Pomeroy:  My opinion is that a child raised by two gay individuals will, in all likelihood, become gay.

Chris:  Mrs. Colby, you are the first wife of Blake Carrington and the mother of his three children.  Is that correct?
Alexis:  As it turns out, Mr. Deegan, I am the mother of his three children and his only wife.

Alexis:  He deprived him of my guidance.   Depriving him of everything that a mother should give. . .
Blake:  Guidance?  It was your guidance that did it.  You had seven years to turn him into what he is.  I've been fighting to make him a man ever since.

Alexis:  You know, Krystle, if I were you, I'd start checking the want ads for a new secretarial job.  Blake may be rich now, but when our merger goes through, he'll be working for me and if you thought he was difficult to live with before, when that happens, he's going to be impossible.
