dynasty Episode 91 - The Trial

After giving Blake the good news that they are siblings, Dominique just left the mansion.  Why else would Blake have to go to La Mirage later in the day to discuss the issue further with Dominique?  Oh yeah, Blake also says that Dominique just dropped the bombshell and walked out.  What exactly does Dominique want?  Blake is suspicious of Dominique's claim to Carrington blood.  All Dominique wants is recognition for what she is - a Carrington.

Blake, do you really need any more proof than postcards?

Blake, do you really need any more proof than postcards?

Dominique's evidence?  Some postcards that Tom Carrington had sent to her mother with claims of endearment and love.  Besides, Tom Carrington was a famous philanderer who wooed many women in Colorado.  Funny, that is the first time any of us ever heard of that.  Blake just believes that Dominique is delusional.

You'll be friends in no time

You'll be friends in no time

Still, Dominique is determined to just get one member of the Carrington clan to recognize her.  She invites Krystle for a drink at La Mirage and tells Krystle she wants to be friends.  Krystle has a problem with that - she does not trust Dominique.  Once again, Dominique has to assure someone they have a lot in common.  Krystle came from humble origins and managed to marry Blake, while Dominique also came from humble origins and made a fortune through work.  Wait?  How is that a lot in common.

The family can't afford these kind of accidents

Jeff is handling Fallon's death very well by getting wasted and hooking up.  Now, it is best when you are hooking up not to call the new girl, Fallon.  Poor Amy does not like being referred to by another woman's name, though she has no problem bringing home a man she just met.  Still, she has some morals and demands that Jeff leaves.

Steven with the wind up

Steven with the wind up

Jeff returns to the mansion drunk and who is still awake - Steven, of course.  Steven really needs to stop waiting for drunks to return home.  Jeff knocks over and breaks a vase (Blake will bill him for it later) and then tells Steven that Fallon was a tramp.  Steven punches Jeff who stumbles up the stairs.  Funny, Steven has called Fallon a tramp before.  I guess that is okay.

Jail, Alexis style

Jail, Alexis style

Alexis's trial is finally beginning.  Life is rough for Alexis in jail as she awaits trial, but she has managed to get access to caviar and champagne - even a few nice pillows.  Adam does not approve of his mother's actions because the press is already hammering her for being privileged and trying to be above the law.  What is Alexis to do?  She is already wearing those horrible jail clothes.

She doesn't seem nosy at all

We finally learn what has been bothering Steven so far this season - he witnessed Mark Jennings's murder and the knowledge of who did it is killing him.  Does Steven tell his wife?  No, he would rather just have sex with her when she tries to approach the topic.  Instead, Steven tells Krystle that he saw Mark Jennings fall but claims it was too dark for him to see the murderer.  Of course, his visions involve Mark's fall and Alexis.

Alexis, it is not your job to object

Alexis, it is not your job to object

So, let's get this straight. (I know Steven and straight)  Steven was on his way home from the office to attend Fallon's engagement party and he actually saw Mark fall and someone on the balcony (how he could see anyone from that distance is beyond me).  Now, Steven is racked with guilt but did not seem to be at the night of Fallon's party.  He was actually having a good time with Claudia.  So, Steven saw Mark fall and he just got back in his car and attended a party.  That does not sound like the actions of a person's filled with guilt.  Further, Alexis was running late to Fallon’s engagement party at La Mirage and when she arrived, Steven was already there with Claudia. So, that means Steven saw Mark falling to his death, went back to the mansion to change into his tux and still beat Alexis to La Mirage. Alexis really needs to hire a new driver.

Also, why are we pretending that Steven did not see his mother push Mark.  If he had seen someone else, he would have said so.  Whatever.  We are just setting up some more mother-son tension.

Look out, a dummy in a track suit is falling!

Look out, a dummy in a track suit is falling!

As with all soap opera trials, this one is filled with horrible evidentiary rulings and the like.  Unlike at Blake's trial, at least the objections raised are more believable.  The State really does not have a strong case, but they do manage to get the testimony of a stereotypical busy body who lived across the way who saw Mark on the terrace with someone else.  Alexis believes that woman is a liar and interjects.  As always, you cannot scream out in court.  These people have been to court quite a few times to know this already.

Now, that is smart courtroom attire

The State then subpoenas Blake Carrington to testify to his tumultuous marriage with Alexis.  Blake even testifies that in one incident, Alexis picked up a knife (though she was drinking) and threatened to kill Blake.  Adam tries to object but is overruled (incorrectly I might add).  Blake also testifies that pushed far enough, Alexis is capable of murder.  On cross-examination, Blake bails out Alexis by testifying that she had no real motive to kill Mark Jennings.  Again, I do not know why that testimony is allowed.

Steven's conscious finally gets the better of him

Steven's conscious finally gets the better of him

Alexis is grateful for Blake's testimony.  Krystle, on the other hand, cannot understand why Blake did that.  Blake is surprised that Krystle is being so judgmental.  Krystle does remind Blake she has a good reason where Alexis is concerned - Alexis did kill their unborn child and never paid for that.  Touche, Krystle.

Don't lose it Steven!

Don't lose it Steven!

Things are actually looking good for Alexis.  That is until Steven's conscious gets the best of him.  Steven visits his mother before court and tells her that he loves her and hopes the best for her.  We know what this means.  The State calls one last witness - Steven.

 Memorable Dialogue

Dominique:  To imply is to suggest, I'm making a statement, Blake.  Tom Carrington is your father and mine.

Steven:  Claudia, I don't want to talk to you.  I just want to be with you.
Claudia:  You can't use sex to block out your feelings.

Jeff:  When are you going to admit what kind of girl your sister was - she was a tramp.
