dynasty episode 10 - The Birthday Party

Why did Steven come back to Denver when he barely hangs out with his family?  At least he did have Fallon and Jeff over for dinner.  Fallon, ever the Nancy Drew, found a negligee in Steven's closet and taunted him about him.  Fallon also thinks he should tell his father he is seeing a woman.  Why?  So Blake will love him. Steven wants none of that.  Besides, the road to heterosexuality will have relapses, especially when your ex-lover Ted Dinard keeps stalking you.  Okay Ted, you live in New York City.  Last time I checked, there are plenty of gay guys there.  Why do you keep coming out to Denver in the hopes that Steven will toss you a bone?  It actually worked this time.  After playing some high class educated game, Ted asks Steven if he can spend the night, and Steven says yes.  Blake, don't buy that newspaper ad proclaiming your son's heterosexuality just yet.

Michael has healed a bit from his beating (Blake quips he may not have got his money's worth).  And, to show there is no hard feelings with Blake, Michael tells him about the emerald necklace.  Normally, a man would confront his wife if he learned that she hocked an expensive piece of jewelry and gave the money to a former lover.  Not Blake Carrington.  He is going to toy with Krystle.  After agreeing to have a birthday part for Cecil, Blake asks Krystle to wear the emerald necklace one last time before he sells it to pay off some creditors.  Krystle looks like a deer in headlights.  What is she going to do now?

Blake knows what he is going to do.  He is going to toy with her a little more.  Blake questions Krystle's loyalty and then demands that she prove that she loves him.  Krystle kisses Blake and Blake walks off.  Krystle is not liking any of this, which is only compounded by the fact that Blake had Michael beat up.  No time for this Krystle, you need to get that necklace back.  Fallon, of all people, wishes she could help Krystle, but not because she believes in true love.  Maybe she does believe in true love when that love is between Krystle and Matthew.  Fallon talks to Matthew and tells him that Krystle is in a heap of trouble over the necklace.  Matthew takes care of it by getting a loan to pay Krystle back.  Grateful, Krystle goes to re-purchase the necklace.  But, guess what?  The man already sold the necklace to some South American because he believed Krystle would never come up with the money.

Blake's not beyond taking Joseph's money

Blake's not beyond taking Joseph's money

Blake and Krystle are not the only ones with marital problems.  Jeff and Fallon are experiencing them too.  At least it is understandable since Fallon did not want to marry Jeff in the first place.  Jeff keeps pushing her to know why she married him, and she finally tells him the truth.  Jeff handles it in a mature fashion, by confronting everyone at Cecil's birthday party in New Orleans.  Jeff finally got the backbone that Fallon demanded and insulted Cecil's drunk love interest all the same time.  When Jeff takes Fallon to leave, Fallon wants to stay but Blake tells Fallon to go with her husband.  Blake, the sale is complete.  Just awesome!

Memorable Dialogue

Steven:  Yeah maybe he [Blake] can take out an ad in the Denver Chronicle.  My son slept with a woman.  He's not a freak after all.

Blake:  That'll be $5.
Joseph:  Considering the difference in our incomes that doesn't seem very sportsman like to me.
Blake:  Now that's an old line of yours, Joseph, and it's not going to work. Besides, I need the money.

Blake:  Can't you do anything about that
Fallon:  Why me?
Blake:  He's your husband.
Fallon:  You picked him out for me.  If you don't like he way he behaves, you tell him.  Better yet, have him beaten up.  That's the way you seem to handle the men in my life.
